NOAA hurricane outlook indicates above normal 2011 Atlantic SeasonThe NHC has predicted increased activity in the Atlantic for 2011....... some predictions even suggest we may have a season that rivals the epic 1995 Hurricane Season. 2011 predictions are:
- 12-18 named storms (winds 39mph or higher)
- 6-10 Hurricanes
- 3-6 Major Hurricanes
The climate factors which forecast the increased activity are:
- We are in a continuing high activity period
- Warm Atlantic Water - Sea surface temperatures are at least two degrees above normal
- La Nina continues to weaken in the Pacific, but it's impacts such as reduced wind shear are expected to continue into the hurricane season.
